If your best friend is getting married, she definitely deserves a bachelorette or bridal shower party! It’s this time of her life when she should feel special and be the centre of attention. However, not all brides want the traditional risqué bachelorette party, especially if the mother-in-law is going to be present. This article has some great and elegant bridal shower ideas that you can do in Hong Kong!
1 Perfume Making Workshop
Scents can give us all sorts of feelings from happiness to nostalgia. A perfume-making workshop is a great way to make a unique scent for your bride and all the bridesmaids while sipping on refreshments and eating cakes. The perfume you make can then be kept for years as a reminder of this special time in your lives as the bridesmaids and the bride. I’ve personally done this workshop, and we all had a blast!
Things to consider when booking a perfume-making workshop would be to 1. confirm if eating and drinking are allowed, 2. set aside to go in ahead of time to decorate and 3. book the workshop for an appropriate amount of time to really enjoy. The priority for this workshop should be to have a great time and not worry about making the perfect perfume. For my friend’s bridal shower, we went to Sovos which is located in Central and cost HKD498 per person and had a 10% service charge. They allowed us to bring our own food and drinks and let us do some balloon decor.
2 Turkish Lamp Workshop
Turkish lamps are not only fun to make but prove to be excellent decorations for your home. Creating some matching Turkish lamps as a group would be the perfect memento for each bridesmaid and the bride. This is the place to go if your bride loves crafts and interior decoration. Mosaic Art Studio is a Turkish lamp class with experienced instructors who not only give you the lesson but also some history to go with it.
I personally really enjoyed making my pink and yellow lamp. If you don’t want to do the workshop at their studio, you can even ask them to come to a designated space you booked elsewhere. Again, be sure to tell them that this is a bridal shower and make the necessary adjustments to make it a perfect day.
3 Silver Ring-making Class
Jewellery is such a perfect gift for any girl…or boy. I personally adore and use the jewellery my girlfriends give to me. If your bride is an accessories girl then why not make a beautiful ring together? I know that this is usually a couple’s activity in Hong Kong, but it’s just as fun if not more to make it with a group of your closest friends. So a ring-making workshop is a perfect splurge plus a group gift you can give to your best friend for her pre-wedding celebrations.
One place to go for a ring-making workshop could be Obellery. This may not be an easy place to have cakes, but I’m sure they’ll make room for some sparklings given the notice. Do make sure to mention this during the booking or enquiry time.
4 Floral Bouquet Workshop
Ah flowers, one of God’s beautiful creations. A bouquet-making workshop is a perfect activity that you can do together to not only help your friend but also help her visualize her selection for her big-day bouquet. It’s a long process from thinking about what’s in the season to what the colour palette should be to even what accompanying greens to add.
My wedding bouquet was pretty much a rainbow assortment while many of my friends opted for white or pink. It’s really up to the bride and her personality. The best thing about a bouquet-making workshop is that you can either go to a studio or DIY it.
How to DIY a bridal bouquet workshop?
It’s really easy, first, you’ll want to bring your bride and the group to the flower market in Prince Edward. From there just spend a morning looking at and buying the flowers she wants and also the greens and ribbons. Buy some feature flowers, small accent flowers, and greens. Don’t forget to find ribbons to tie it all! For the ribbon, you should think about what colour you want, the length, texture and width.
You can even go with multiple ribbons and strings. Yes, these things do matter so make a checklist(or see mine below!) and head on over. During your event, collaborate on a big bouquet for the bride and small bouquets for each of the attendees. My friends did this for me as one of the events, and I really appreciated the precious memories we made.

5 Bridal Henna tattoo party
If you’re a South Asian bride in Hong Kong then this one is a no-brainer. A henna party or Mehendi is a traditional function a bride has with all of her best friends and close relatives. It is celebrated all over Asia in countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and more. It is a beautiful function that can be as big or as small as you want it to be.
Mine was held at my home where all of my friends got to wear sarees, and we had some talented henna artists do the designs for all of us. A henna party should be decorated with flowers, colourful fabric, candles and music. The amazing artists that did my bridal henna were @mehendilicious, @hennastic.hk_ and @henna_by_anshaaa on Instagram. Do check out their accounts. They use organic homemade henna which is free of chemicals.
6 Bachelorette Tram Party
So booking a tram party is surprisingly affordable. Check out my article on how to have an epic tram party in Hong Kong. A tram party is actually a beautiful way to enjoy time with your friends and bride while going through the city. I would highly recommend this during the cooler months in Hong Kong where it’s pleasant to be outside.
The HK tramways are quite generous and allow you to bring your own decorations, food and drinks. So why not have a fun tram party for all of your best friends to be in?
7 Bridal Shower Staycation
The best feeling is having an overnight staycation with your girlfriends where you can chat and do facials and go for buffets. If your bride and friend group had more than one afternoon or evening then you could plan for a staycation! My favourite is the foodie staycation, but you could also do a spa staycation to pamper the gorgeous bride before her big day.
8 Other Top Tips for a Bridal Party
Photos and Polaroids
Photos are a must for this special day! I highly recommend having some disposable cameras or a Polaroid camera ready for this momentous occasion.
Matching outfits for the Bridesmaids and the Bride
To have great photos and make the bride stand out more, you need to coordinate those outfits! Usually, the bride wears white or red and the rest of the bridesmaids match and wear something else.
Prepare a Bride-to-be Sash
A sash is such a fun thing to add to the bride’s outfit to make her feel even more special!
Flower Crown
You cannot go wrong with a flower crown! It just adds to the bride’s look so effortlessly and makes her look all the more special. I had one during my henna party and simply loved it! It looked great in the photos too!
