If you are looking for a place to shop for trendy and affordable items in Hong Kong, you should not miss Fa Yuen Street Market. This bustling open-air street market sits right at the heart of Mong Kok and Prince Edward. The best part is that it is very close to a lot of Mong Kok’s gems such as the Sneaker Street and the Flower Market!

Let’s check out what this hidden gem is all about.

1 Where is Fa Yuen Street Market?

Fa Yuen Street Market is easily accessible by public transport. You can take the MTR to either Prince Edward Station or Mong Kok Station, and walk for about 10 minutes to reach the market. Alternatively, you can take a bus, minibus, or taxi to Fa Yuen Street or the nearby streets.

2 Opening Hours

The market is open daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, but some stalls may close earlier or later depending on the day and the season. The best time to visit is in the afternoon or evening when the market is more lively and colourful.

3 What to buy

Sneakers

Fa Yuen Street Market is divided into two sections: the south section and the north section. The south section, also known as Sneaker Street, is famous for its sports shops that sell all kinds of footwear, especially sneakers.

You can find brands like Nike, Adidas, Puma, Reebok, New Balance, and more, as well as some limited edition and rare models.

The prices are competitive, and you can try to negotiate for a better deal. You can also find other sports-related items, such as rackets, balls, bags, and clothing!

Affordable Clothing

The north section, on the other hand, is more like a typical street market, with stalls selling various goods, such as clothes, bags, accessories, household products, and souvenirs. You can find some fashionable items here, as well as some cheap and cheerful ones.

The quality may vary, so make sure you check the items carefully before buying.

Thrift Shops

Mee and Gee Mong Kok

Mee and Gee is one of Hong Kong’s most well-reputed thrift shops. It is not only affordable but also has a combination of prestige brands and regular labels. If you’re heading to this market you should check out the Mee and Gee Mong Kok branch!

4 Should I bargain at Fa Yuen Street Market?

In short, no. Fa Yuen Street is a regular open-air market that you can find in other places in Hong Kong. Unlike the night markets such as Mong Kok Ladies Market and Temple Street Night Market, the prices of goods are usually fair and fixed.

The prices are always clearly displayed either on the product itself or on a signboard! So don’t worry about being ripped off in Fa Yuen Street.

5 What to eat at Fa Yuen Street Market?

A day of shopping can surely make you hungry. Don’t worry! There are plenty of Hong Kong street food options around that can make for a great snack or even a meal.

Egg waffles: These are crispy and fluffy waffles made with eggs, flour, sugar, and milk. They are shaped like honeycombs and come in different flavours, such as chocolate, cheese, and green tea.

  • Sneaker Street: A sneakerhead’s dream shopping district where you can find almost all popular sneaker brands.
  • Ladies Market: This is another popular street market in Mong Kok, selling mainly women’s clothing, accessories, and cosmetics. It is located on Tung Choi Street, parallel to Fa Yuen Street.
  • Goldfish Market: This street market specializes in selling goldfish, aquariums, and other pet supplies. It is located on Tung Choi Street North, near Prince Edward Station.
  • Flower Market: This is a street market that sells a variety of fresh and artificial flowers, plants, and gardening tools. It is located on Flower Market Road, near Prince Edward Station.
  • Bird Market: This is a street market that sells a variety of birds, cages, and bird food. It is located on Yuen Po Street, near Prince Edward Station.

7 Conclusion
