Have you ever thought about trying baking but felt it was too much of a commitment? It can get expensive quickly, especially in Hong Kong. You have to buy appliances, cookware, and a large number of ingredients. So, it only makes sense to try it out a few times before committing to the hobby. Well, a cake baking class might be your solution. I recently attended a cake baking class for my friend’s birthday, and here’s my full review of how it went!
1 My Cake Baking Experience at Bakebe
I was a little wary about attending a baking class where you have to follow all instructions from an iPad and essentially work on your own. Given the price, I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy it much. But as I mentioned, it’s cheaper than buying all the appliances and ingredients. To my surprise, the baking class turned out to be quite pleasant!
Here are my ratings of each aspect, along with the details.
The Location
Bakebe is located in Mira 2 Mall, which is easy to get to and conveniently close to major public transportation in the tourist district of Tsim Sha Tsui.

Address | 118-130 Nathan road Mira Place 2 Shop 170, L1, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong |
Opening Hours | Daily 11am – 8pm |
Phone Number | +852 3165 8279 |
The Venue
The shop is quite spacious and divided into different zones. There is a baking area, prep desks for each participant, an ingredient collection zone, and an area where you can drop off dirty dishes and utensils. Overall, I found it to be well-organized and nicely decorated.
There are no toilets in the shop itself, but you can use the ones in Mira Mall.
The Ambience
Speaking of decor, you’ll find this place extremely floral and pink. It’s the perfect Instagrammable spot, but I must admit it felt quite feminine. If you’re not into overly floral decor, there are other more neutral baking classes available. I even saw one in the same mall!
That being said, there were three boys in my friend group, and they were perfectly fine hanging out in this cute space 😂
The Staff
The staff was mainly there to answer extra questions or help you find the right ingredients. I asked them to help me check if my cake was properly baked, and they gave me pointers on how to test it with a metal skewer. What I found odd was that this place doesn’t provide free phone charging—you have to rent the chargers they have. Personally, I think a free service like phone charging should be provided for customers.
2 How did the cakes turn out?
Before going to the class, I asked some friends about their experiences with cake baking classes and received a mixed bag of reviews. One friend said their cake turned out dry and dense, while another mentioned their cake tasted healthy. So, I was a bit concerned about how mine would turn out. Not only did my cupcakes turn out beautiful, fluffy, and moist, but all of my friends’ cakes did as well. As you can see in the photo below, we made all kinds of cakes, and they all tasted delicious 💖

3 Cake Baking Class Pricing
Each person’s baking class fee depends on the item you’re making. I chose to make cupcakes, which cost me HK$390. You can also choose to bake with a partner, who will pay 30% of the dessert’s cost. So effectively, couples pay 1.3 times the price of the dessert being made. I thought this was a good deal, especially considering that classes of any kind typically range from HK$250 to HK$500, and can even go up to HK$1,000.
Cake Type | Price Range |
---|---|
Cakes (1.5lbs) | HK$450 – HK$620 |
Cupcakes (6 Pcs) | HK$360 – HK$420 |
Roll Cake | HK$490 – HK$530 |
Macaroons (12-15 pcs) | HK$380 – HK$450 – |
Profiterole (6 Pcs) | HK$430 – HK460 |
Cookies (6 Pcs) | HK$250 – HK360 |
4 Would I Go Back to Bakebe?
I thought the class was quite enjoyable. I got to spend a relaxing two hours with my friends, and we all baked something different. If you have an afternoon or evening to spare, this is definitely worth it. Other similar activities, like art jamming classes, can be comparable in terms of price and time spent.
