We take for granted the vast number of activities available to us in Hong Kong. Whether you’re an outdoor person or prefer the indoors, there’s something for everyone in this city. Read on if you’re running out of date ideas with your partner!
In this article, I will be sharing really cool and creative date ideas in Hong Kong that will make your partner swoon and fall in love with you all over again!
1 Scenic Walk along the West Kowloon Promenade
Let’s go back to the basics. Hong Kong’s skyline is not only world-renowned but beautiful during the day or night. A walk along any of its promenades will allow you to have heart-to-hearts that a restaurant setting simply could not.
It’s important to slow down once in a while in this fast-paced city and simply take a long leisurely walk.
2 Have a Picnic
A picnic is the perfect way to enjoy each other’s company while enjoying a chill afternoon or evening. I recommend having a picnic at the West Kowloon Cultural District if you want to have an easy picnic while staying in the city.
Another breathtaking spot would be at the Tai Tam Country Park as you can bask in the glory of its beautiful greenery and the reservoir.
3 Visit an Outlying Island
Mui Wo
Mui Wo is nestled on the eastern coast of Lantau Island. Its charming and serene landscapes have been attracting people for many years. You can enjoy the perfect date on its tranquil beaches, lush hiking trail, quaint village and its many cafes.
If you’d like a romantic getaway, try having a date at the Hideout Cafe or have a staycation at the Silvermine Beach Resort Hotel.
Cheung Chau
Take a ferry to Cheung Chau Island! Cheung Chau is a captivating island located in the southwest of Hong Kong. Renowned for its rich cultural heritage and picturesque landscapes, it’s the perfect place for a date or outing. What I love about it is the vibrant fishing community, traditional temples and beautiful coastal trails.
Cheung Chau is truly a peaceful escape from the otherwise metropolitan city of Hong Kong. If you go there, do remember to try out the giant fishballs by the pier or the mango mochi from there which is famous!
4 Have a Chill Afternoon of Art Jamming
Art jamming is one of my favourite activities to do whether it be with a friend or on a date. You can sit back and create something together while having a couple of hours just winding down and having a chat.
5 Hangout at the Beach
Hong Kong’s beaches are a fantastic place to go for a date. With its scenic beauty and calming waves, it’s truly a tranquil escape from Hong Kong’s city life. Chilling at the beach while having a drink or even having a barbeque would cheer you right up!
Shek O is my favourite place but there are plenty of beaches such as the Ham Tin Beach which truly looks like a beach in Maldives!
6 Take a Hike. No, seriously. Do it!
Hiking might be a Hong Konger’s favourite pastime activity. I mean why not! Hong Kong has the best views from cityscapes to mountain tops.
A hike is not only a cool date idea but you’ll also get some exercise in! There are lots of hikes to choose from but an easy yet short one for a date would be the Devil’s Peak hike.
If you’re up for a challenge, check out these other hikes that we’ve been enjoying!
7 Build a Lego set!
Hear me out here. I’ve recently tried building a Lego set on a date (with my husband) and really enjoyed it. The nature of the activity means that it’s slow-paced and relaxing making you feel comfortable enough to start chatting about different things. It takes off the pressure of constantly having to talk. If you’re just getting to know someone and get nervous easily, this should make things smoother. You can focus on the task at hand while letting down your guard and enjoying your date’s company!
8 Movie Night at Broadway Cinematheque
If you and your partner are movie buffs, you should head to Broadway Cinematheque in Yau Ma Tei, where you can catch your favourite film on the big screen. This cinema is known for showing a variety of films, from Hollywood blockbusters to indie gems, from local productions to foreign classics.
I have close friends who swear by this place and there are occasionally film festival showings at this theatre.
You can also browse the movie posters, books, and DVDs at the cinema’s shop, or have a coffee at the attached Kubrick café. The café is also a bookshop and an art gallery, where you can find different genres of books, art pieces, and exhibitions.
9 Go Cycling
Hong Kong has a lot of cycling trails which makes it perfect for nature lovers to have outdoorsy dates. A cool idea is to go on a cycling trip from Tai Wai to Tai Mei Tuk which is quite a popular route and you’ll be rewarded with splendid views from the Tai Mei Tuk Reservoir Dam. You can simply rent a bicycle for a day from Tai Wai even if you don’t own one.
What’s awesome is that there are cool cafes you can hit up once you reach Tai Mei Tuk. It is the perfect date. <3
10 Go to a Comedy Night
Comedy is a powerful bonding tool. What’s even better is finding someone with the same sense of humour as you. Why not take a chance and go to a comedy night to share some laughter and joy? You’ll not only have a cool memory that’s not the same as every other date but also get to experience a cool activity.
Plan and check out what are the current stand-up shows that are playing in Hong Kong.
11 Go to a Symphony
There is an elegance and class in attending a symphony that cannot be matched by any other. It’s the old-school sophistication and romantic atmosphere that makes the symphony a really special date.
Save this idea for a special occasion and take your significant other on a beautiful cultural and artistic date. In today’s fast-paced world, having a date in such a location sets the pace for a memorable evening. You can find dates and availability on https://www.hkphil.org/.
